Amatongas (Mozambique): The canonical visit 2025

Posted on by fsceditor

Brothers Carlos Almaraz and Stéphane Sané, general councilors, conducted the canonical visit to this mission from December 13 to 22, 2025.

It was already the school holiday period, so the community was able to focus more effectively on the numerous topics planned for their study: the ordinance of the 2024 general chapter, the community project, school structures, the residents of the boarding house, the different ministries, and the aspirancy program.

The mission at Amatongas has many fronts to manage: the secondary school (around 1,000 students), the boys' boarding house (around 80), parish and vocational ministries, and the future aspirancy program.

The Salesian Sisters run the girls’ boarding house since last year. However, our Institute is responsible for the renovations of the facilities and for the construction of the sisters' residence.

The good news is that, for the 2026 academic year, the mission welcomes three new brothers: Marc VICHÉ (Central Africa), director; Raimundo do Lago Bezerra (Brazil), superior of the community and formator; and Stanislas Donou (West Africa), director of the boarding house.

The rest of the community consists of Brothers Luc Favreau (Brazil), Cristóbal Calzado (Spain), and the Mozambicans Osvaldo José ARTUR, João Vasco JECINAU, and Cacílio Laque PAULINO. To them we should consider Samuel Marcos EDUARDO, scholastic in Nairobi (Kenya) who is also part of the community.
